“The film will explore Hutchins’s life, prolific cinematography career, and untimely death.

Story Syndicate is giving acclaimed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins her due with a new feature documentary that just entered production. The documentary seeks to showcase her life beyond her highly-publicized death, exploring her youth and journey to becoming one of the most-desired cinematographers in the indie film space, according to a report from Deadline….

With exclusive access to Hutchins’s archives, the currently unnamed documentary will be able to tell her full story as a person and a creative.”

Commentary

I grew up without any female cinematographer examples or role models and the only opportunities available to get into the industry were for men even if they weren’t advertised as such.

It was made abundantly clear to anyone else different from the wealthy male WASP filmmaking fraternity paradigm that their chances of getting into the film and television industry in the camera department were zero or at best extremely dodgy.

Had an example like the tragically late Halyna Hutchins been available to inspire us then my life and career would have been very different, given how she came into the education system and industry later in life than most and from anything but a mainstream background or place in the world.

We’ll be keeping an eye on developments in the production and eventual release of this documentary on her.
